Replacement windows on a modern Boulder home

Windows installed the way new construction windows are meant to be installed.

Andersen, Pella, Marvin and Sierra Pacific. Financing available on select brands.

The method

Most homeowners think new construction windows are only for new homes. They are not.

New construction windows can also be used on a replacement project, as long as the exterior of the home is properly exposed.

That method requires access to the substrate or sheathing so the window can be fastened directly to the framing through a nailing flange. The flange is the fin around the perimeter of the frame, and it is what integrates the window into the home’s weather barrier system instead of just sitting inside the old opening.

It costs more up front than a retrofit insert. It also creates a complete, weather tight seal around the entire opening, which significantly reduces the risk of air and water intrusion and delivers far better long term performance, durability and energy efficiency.

Because we are an exterior contractor, we can expose the wall properly. A window only company usually cannot.

Questions

Window questions

Do I need new construction windows or retrofit inserts?

It depends on whether the exterior can be exposed and what condition the opening is in. If the wall is coming off anyway for stucco or siding work, new construction windows are almost always the better long term answer.

Is financing available?

Yes, on select brands. Ask the office which manufacturers currently have programs running.

Can you handle a hail or storm claim?

Yes. We handle storm and water damage insurance claims for roofing, stucco, windows and gutters.

Will new windows really lower my bills?

Air leakage is the bigger number for most homes. The average home has air leaks equivalent to leaving a three square foot window open all the time, which is why we treat sealing and flashing as part of the window job rather than an extra.
