Custom home rebuilt after the Marshall Fire
Home  /  Fire Mitigation

Harden the house before the next wildfire.

Colorado’s wildfire threat grows every year. Vegetation management matters, but homes are most often lost because combustible exterior materials ignite when exposed to wind driven embers and radiant heat.

Why home hardening matters

Research after major western wildfires shows many homes ignite from embers, not direct flame.

We believe the most effective long term approach to wildfire mitigation is reducing combustible building materials on the exterior of the home and replacing them with more fire resistant alternatives wherever practical.

For over forty years Metro Reconstruction has improved the durability, performance and resiliency of Colorado homes through exterior reconstruction. Home hardening is the same work, aimed at a different threat.

Questions

Fire mitigation questions

What does the free inspection cover?

We walk the exterior and identify the vulnerable assemblies: cladding, decks, soffits and vents, window and door openings, roof edge and gutters. You get a list you can act on in any order, including the parts you can do yourself.

Do I have to do all of it at once?

No. Home hardening works in layers. We will tell you which single change buys you the most, and what can wait until the siding or roof is due anyway.

Is stucco fire resistant?

Stucco performs well against radiant heat and ember exposure compared with combustible cladding, but no material makes a house fireproof. The assembly, the vents, the deck and the roof edge all matter.

Do you work with insurance?

Yes. We have extensive experience working alongside insurance companies and coordinating with state, city and county agencies.
